Fat Texts!

Stoke-on-Trent City Council is so concerned about obesity in the City, itis spending £10,000 on texts telling overweight residents to eat less.

They have signed up 500 Stokies to get 10 weeks of daily messages like, “Why not walk to the shops more often”, “Eat slightly smaller portions” and “Keep a check on snacks and drinks”.

The TaxPayers’ Alliance yesterday branded the plan “a ridiculous waste of cash” and said: “Council chiefs shouldn’t play nanny with taxpayers’ money.”

But Adrian Knapper, Stoke council’s health and wellbeing cabinet member, said the city had an “epidemic” with 28% of adults obese, 22% of children aged 11 and 11.7% of five-year-olds.
